Meet Simone Szarkiewicz
Simone began her career in NSW, Australia initially as an occupational therapy assistant while she was completing her studies to become an occupational therapist. She has over 15 years of combined experience. Simone has been practising in Vancouver since early 2013 as a registered occupational therapist. She is a duly qualified and registered occupational therapist in good standing with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC), formally the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COTBC), and the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT). Simone obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Sydney Australia and a Bachelor or Social Science from the University of Newcastle Australia.
Simone is the owner and director of Ommi Health. She has consulted for larger IME firms and opened Ommi Health as she wanted to provide a more direct local service to her clients. She is known for her attention to detail and taking a closer look at complex cases. She is approachable, empathetic and uses a customized approach, considering the bigger picture in complex cases.
Simone develops a deep level of care and empathy for people who have been injured or who have not been able to regain their pre-injury level of function. She approaches her work with the goal of looking closer to see the bigger picture, to evaluate functional abilities and limitations and determine both current and future needs. She has had over 12 years of experience in various treatment and case management roles, working with people who have had orthopedic injuries, musculoskeletal injuries, amputations, spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, chronic pain, complex regional pain syndrome, brain injury (mild to severe), other neurological conditions, psychological conditions and various types of cognitive dysfunctions. She has a high level of attention to detail which is what makes her unique and highly skilled with assessment and report writing. Simone has worked with ICBC, WorkSafeBC and extended healthcare providers.
For the past 8 years, she has dedicated her practice to various areas of medical malpractice, motor vehicle collisions, pedestrian accidents, motorcycle accidents, sexual abuse, family and estate law. She has experience in many areas of physical health, orthopedic injuries, chronic pain, chronic regional pain syndrome, spinal cord injury, amputations, severe mental health, neurological conditions to include mild and severe brain injury, which equip her with the skills to handle the most complex cases.
Simone is a Roy Matheson certified life care planner (CFC/LCP-Advanced) and functional capacity evaluator. She has completed Cognitive Functional Capacity Evaluation training. She regularly participates in education courses to ensure that she is up to date with current practices.
Simone has assessed hundreds of individuals in the areas above and has been accepted as an expert witness in the Supreme Court of British Columbia in the areas of occupational therapy, cost of future care/life care planning and functional assessment on numerous occasions.
