What is a Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)?

A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a comprehensive full day or multi day assessment that is designed to systematically assess an individual’s capabilities and limitations via a set of testing protocols that are evidenced-based. At Ommi Health FCEs are completed by trained occupational therapists experienced in functional capacity evaluation.

During an FCE functional abilities and limitations from a physical, cognitive and psycho emotional perspective are addressed. It is important that an FCE takes into consideration the functional, cognitive, behavioural, psycho emotional status, work endurance and fatigue as appropriate to the medical diagnosis and . The FCE will consider work tolerance, durability, competitive employability, return to work and next step recommendations to maintain, improve work function or if vocational transition is indicated.
